WHAT DEFIES GRAVITY

we are
wingless,
earthbound,
and perplexed;
and i ask myself:
even if i did not lack wings,
might i not still
lack the ability to fly?
and why?
because the gravity
of the world's sorrow
weighs so heavily
upon the heart,
that it often seems
impossible to rise above it.

wingless
and earthbound
are we,
but perplexity
also has its limits;

and hope still exists,
when patience and determination
go beyond all limits,
when effort opens wide the gates
and insight opens wide the eyes,

when light penetrates
throughout the world,
radiating from the abodes of Brahma:
the grace of equanimity,
the lightness of joy,
the healing power of compassion,
and liberation of the heart
through loving-kindness.

feet may be planted
firmly on the ground,
seemingly immovable;
but hearts can extend love freely,
in any direction,
unstoppable
and
immeasurable.
