Dhamma (Dharma) Verses for Reflection

My mind cannot experience peace while it fosters painful thoughts
of hatred. Restless, unable to sleep, I shall know no joy or happiness.

--Shantideva, Bodhisattvacaryavatara (6:3)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Having found its fuel of unhappiness in the obstruction of what I
wish for and in the doing of what I do not want, Hatred increases
and then destroys me. Therefore, I should totally extinguish the
fuel of this enemy; for this enemy has no other function than that
of causing me harm.
--Shantideva, Bodhisattvacaryavatara (6:7-8)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If I am unable to endure the sufferings of the present, then
why not restrain myself from anger, which will be the cause
of future sufferings?

--Shantideva, Bodhisattvacaryavatara (6:73)

Name: "Dee"

As much as I read, listen to dhama talks and so forth, as much as I practice mindfulness and breathng, I still do not understand.  I do not understand self and no-self.  I do not understand why life is seen as suffering or a prison. The alternative is death.  But, maybe that is wrong view.  I do undersand that we create the cause and effects in our lives.  but, I don't understand how to rid myself of the kamma.  I hope to be found and gain knowledge in this matter.
