Lotus Flower Path

pink lotus

slowly, deliberately,
we follow the path
around the room
in the brisk morning air.

sunlight filters through
stained glass windows and
lead crystal door panels,
shining gemlike patterns
on the plush red carpet.

somewhere outside,
a neighbor's dog is barking,
sparrows sing sweetly, and
an airplane soars high above.

inside Lien Hoa temple,
we perform a slow-motion
ballet; but, with humility,
we simply call it
"walking meditation."
